January 2021

Moose really like to come and wander in our yard, so to start our new year we made some new friends. January 1st was a hit with our new friends.

Kael got a millennial falcon for his Christmas present, and got straight to work and it didn't take him more than a couple of days to get it finished.
It was such a good day on January 6th, 2021! Derek was able to be one of the first to get a covid-19 vaccine because he is a healthcare provider. One more step to developing some immunity, and getting out of quarantine status for the world. We were so happy to do our part.

The gingerbread houses are adorably decorating the house.
Derek bought me new bedding for our bed for Christmas and I absolutely love it!
First tooth for Connor was a success! Put it under his pillow and the tooth fairy kindly rewarded him.
Eklutna Lake and the Eagle River Nature Center

Derek got a sleep study and who doesn't love a photo connected to tons of wires.
The sunset view off the back porch is spectacular. Who says there is no light in January in Alaska?!

We love our new chinchilla MoMo.

We also decided to upgrade the girls room. The closet needed a little paint. So everything got thrown on the floor.

Before and After
When we came back to school from the Christmas break covid numbers were rising again, and there were many complications with our little co op homeschool group. To try to avoid getting covid and to reduce problems we ended up splitting the group into half. The Arner's and us continued schooling together and the Rogers and the Greens would participate together. It caused a lot of strife and heartache, but it was time for a change.
We thankfully got to spend some time together in -5 degree weather playing outside for Ellora's birthday party before we officially broke up the homeschool group.
A black widow somehow found it's way in our boxes from Texas and made it's way to Alaska in our garage. There normally are not black widow's in Alaska because it is too cold for them. This lady really didn't want to leave us when we left Texas.
Uncle Bart's M&M cookies that were his favorite. Yum.
It was officially decided when I become a Grandma someday I want to be called Mimi like my Great Grandma. It is officially documented children, you must comply. My Mom bought me a shirt for it.
The kids had a guinea pig play date and brought over the Arner's guinea pigs to play with MoMo.

The girls and Connor worked hard to build their lego dragons they got from Christmas. It was project zone in the house and was so much fun.
More MoMo photos. The dogs liked MoMo too.

School projects arrived and were as tall as Connor.

Grandad passed away. With covid how it is I couldn't fly down to the funeral in Phoenix. However, because of covid we were able to zoom and do live video so I could watch from the comfort of my home.
The bald eagles come down in the winter toward the dump, so we get to enjoy so many of them nearby all the time.
Eden and Kael were able to compete in a swim meet. Even with covid going on the one sport we chose to allow was swimming and it was so good to start. Lisa Arner helped to take them to participate with Joseph and Elizabeth and we got excited the kids could participate in meets again.
Derek has a smoker now and is loving smoking all kinds of meats. We all enjoy the benefits of Derek loving to cook amazing things.
Derek got his name on the wall finally at work.

My handsome boys all ready for church.
Derek got his license plate changed out and we are OFFICIALLY Alaskan's now!
We made it through our first January in Alaska and had a lot of fun along the way.
