September 2020

First day of school September 1, 2020
We did our yearly back to school photos.
The coronavirus helped us to decide what we've had in our hearts for a very long time. On the long drive from Texas to Alaska we put in research and time and made a decision to join a charter school that funds homeschooling for families. It is a part of the public school district, but allows parents to teach their children. In August I received a knock at my door from a lady in our ward Lisa Arner who had homeschooled her children the last 8 years and was looking to create a co op. Little did we know it would be a roller coaster of a ride, but so good for the children. We had 4 families and met 4 days a week while covid allowed us to. The kids made friends and we had a good time learning.

Lisa Arner taught a memorization class of history and the younger class, I taught science, English, and history. Deniene Greene helped with the younger class and devotionals. Caitlin Rogers helped with the older class and taught Spanish and art to the kids.

Harvest Festival Alaska State Fair 2020
Caitlin and I took our children and the Arner kids to the festival to see the ginormous pumpkins and participated in a few contests. It was so much fun.

Eden and I took second for mother/daughter look alike contest.
The kids were able to participate in a donut eating contest.

Freya is so funny, and the girls got her all tucked in to sleep.
The Butte Hike and Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm
This was the beautiful farm out in Palmer we picked some vegetables from. After visiting the farm we drove a mile to "The Butte". It was a fun hike, however Eden ended up getting stung on her hand by a bee. We were quite unlucky and all of us girls had all been stung now.

It was so windy on the top of the Butte. It felt like we would be blown over.
Derek bought a smoker and has become quite the pro at smoking meats.
I took photos of Elara in her baptism dress for her invitations at the temple. Kael and Eden had theirs at the temple, so it was fun doing the same for Elara. There were just too many photos to choose from, so basically almost all are posted because I just love the kids when they are prepping for baptism. I can never pick one when they are so cute with all their different faces and Elara didn't disappoint.

When you get baptized during a pandemic, sometimes you have to wear a mask for your photo shoot.

More delicious BBQ smoking from Derek
We moved a lot of rocks in September. The grass in the fenced back yard just wouldn't properly grow, so we decided to just fill it with rocks. We got some D1 and made a walking path with stones, and moved a lot of rocks...
On September 13th Derek purchased an inflatable kayak, so we could play around at the nearby lakes. The kids had fun paddling around and playing on the playground at Mirror Lake. It is only a 15 minute drive from our house and the scenery is beautiful!

The kids started ice skating lessons. It has been a really fun new hobby.
Coming out of Walmart there was the biggest crow eating a pizza off a persons truck.
