Saturday February 1, 2020 Day 2 on our journey to California and Back.
We crossed the Arizona border.
Once in Arizona we stopped for lunch for some CAFE RIO! Poor Derek hadn't had cafe rio in 6 years. I don't know if I could have lasted that long.
That night we made it to Simi Valley, California and had dinner at "Tommy's" with Derek's grandparents Nana and Papa Pat. It was such a fun yummy day and we loved seeing our family!
We love our family so very much. The next day we got some much needed rest from the journey. Then, we headed to Nana and Papa Pat's house and visited with them and Julie and Jessica. That night Steve and Silvia came to visit and Derek's Mom and Mark arrived. Family means everything to us and we are so grateful we could visit with just a small part even.
The boys can't stop at Nana and Papa Pat's without catching some lizards. Pretty sure Kael caught his first all on his own this trip.
I love Nana's face in the photo. It makes me think she is looking at Papa Pat thinking just look what we did. We helped to create these people and they are pretty awesome.
Day 3 we went to the beach with Kelly and Mark and headed to a new hotel by Disneyland.
Favorite picture of the trip is Derek on the beach. It all encompasses my happy place when I need calm I think of Derek and I think of the beach. My love.
Grammy with her grandbabies.
This boy LOVES the beach. It was hard to get him to come in. He had a blast, and it was chilly.
I love seeing the happiness the beach brings.
It was so chilly and I was holding all of the sandals and I want to say for the first time, it was actually me who gave up on the beach first. I'm glad we left when we did because we were able to go to Tommy's again that night and the food was so good. You can't go to the beach and not get some Tommy's. Every second was so worth it!
Day 4
All ready for day 1.
Part of my Christmas present with these t-shirts was a family photo in them at Disneyland.
And I honestly feel it was worth it. I love this photo!
We kind of have a habit of always running to pirates of the carribbean first and then big thunder mountain and it didn't disappoint. While waiting we got our passes for the new Star Wars land rides.
Lots of waiting that was so worth it for every ride. The kids were brave and Kael was the only one who didn't love some of the rides.
Waiting for Big Thunder Mountain
Kael was a good sport and tried almost everything this time and had a lot better attitude than at Six Flags. I'm super proud of him. Connor and Eden loved everything and would ride every ride a thousand times. Elara didn't love Splash Mountain at Disneyland.
All 8 of us on Big Thunder Mountain
It's so totally and completely ridiculous, but we love riding on the Jungle Cruise.
We brought a change of clothes and did shorts for Splash Mountain!
Kael got all the way to the top and chickened out. We were so close to a photo with all of us for Splash Mountain and I am determined the next time we go we will have it! Our faces are pretty accurate if I do say so.
Star Wars land was AMAZING!!! It was just so cool! To see the things you grew up watching on a movie in life size was so much fun and the rides were just awesome.
It kind of was a dream come true of awesomeness. Pretty sure we walked around with our jaws hanging open. And the green and blue milk was soooo NOT worth the $8 each. They were both kind of gross and I am glad we tried them, but bleh. Green especially.
Kylo Ren's spaceship.
We sat in the Millineum Falcon where they play space chess.
The smuggler's run ride was so much fun. We were only able to go on it once, and you got to be either a pilot, engineer, or gunner and it was so much fun!
We had the most delicious lunch at Ronto Roasters where we got these sausage wraps with purple cabbage called a Ronto Wrap. They were AMAZING! We got some ribs from Docking Bay 7 another restaurant, but for the most part the food was AMAZING! The decorations here were so fun!
We were able to go around 3 PM to ride the new Star Wars ride "Rise of the Resistance". It was so cool because they had actors basically helping to do the ride. And it was really quite fun!
We did some Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, which always has terrible photos.
Derek somehow always demolishes all of us with amazing scores, and yet he is bored by the ride.
Kael and Connor love the video game like rides.
Space Mountain was not loved so much by Kael at first, BUT it was much LOVED by all!
Rockets
We went on the rockets, because it was a favorite when the kids were little. I'm pretty certain I have at least one other child wearing the Disneyland sweater Connor is wearing in a photo at Disneyland.
AND I found it! Throw back!
Kael was 4 at Disneyland! Connor 4 at Disneyland wearing the EXACT same sweater!
We got towards the end of the day to do DROID making! We didn't want to have to take them with us the whole day. Little did we realize we could have had someone hold on to them for us.
Each kid kind of had an idea of what droid they wanted. They had been working hard and saving every penny for this trip! They watched many videos on the different voice sounds they could get and colors and style.
Kael was the only one to choose an R2 unit. The other 3 chose BB units.
I'm so proud of how hard all 4 kids worked to earn the money to buy exactly what they wanted. Helping take care of neighbors animals and working hard on their chores every single week and doing extra. They are pretty amazing kids, who deserve all the good things they get.
Elara all finished and ready to activate her droid!
We were EXHAUSTED at the end of the day. We had so much fun and loved every minute being together as a family! We are so glad Grammy and Mark could join us on our adventures!
We have to end day one with one more throw back photo we had to recreate with Eden.
Eden almost 10 years old and Eden just 4 years old. 6 years in between.
She wanted to recreate her sucker photo of such hard choices!
